Scholes (Elmet) Primary School is a happy and healthy place to learn. It’s also a happy and healthy place to work. We have vacancies for Out of School Club Assistants to join our busy wraparound provision. Various hours/days are available.

Your role will include working with a small team of playworkers to ensure the safe supervision of our children in a fun and engaging setting, providing high quality childcare and engaging children with varied, creative and age-appropriate activities.

o ‘It’s great to work with such supportive colleagues.’

o ‘I feel valued as a part of the team.’

(Staff survey, 2026)

We want people who demonstrate personal qualities of dedication, patience, flexibility and humour. They will be able to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as respond quickly to the changing needs of the school and children.

In school, we recognise the value of AI tools and understand that applicants might choose to use these in the application. Please note that applications which stand out are those which are personal and allow us to 'get to know you'.

Safeguarding

This post involves substantial contact with children. Safeguarding is a key requirement and responsibility.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of all children. We expect our staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

As part of this and all recruitments, we carry out thorough safeguarding checks. This includes (not an exhaustive list of the recruitment checks):

1. an online search to help identify any incidents or issues which might compromise your professional role

2. obtaining two references, one of which is from the candidate’s current or most recent employer

3. a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check for the successful candidate

All posts involving direct contact with children are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. However, amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 & 2020) provide that certain spent convictions and cautions are ‘protected’. These are not subject to disclosure to employers and cannot be taken into account. Guidance and criteria from the Ministry of Justice on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found here. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide details of all unspent convictions and those that are not filtered prior to the date of the interview. You may be asked for further information about your criminal history during the recruitment process. If your application is successful, this self-disclosure information will be checked against information from the Disclosure & Barring Service before your appointment is confirmed. Further information about filtering offences can be found in the DBS filtering guidance. Please note, under Section 7(1)(a) of the SVGA 2006 (Legislation.gov.uk), it is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred in engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
