Head of Department - Litigation
A well-established boutique law firm in Leeds, part of the progressive Professional Services Group, is seeking to appoint a Head of Department – Litigation to lead and shape their growing disputes team.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced litigator to take strategic ownership of a disputes practice, overseeing a broad range of contentious matters and driving the department’s continued growth and success.
The Role:
As Head of Department, you will provide strong leadership and expert guidance to the disputes team, ensuring delivery of high-quality legal services across a diverse caseload. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and managing the Litigation & Dispute Resolution department, providing supervision, mentorship, and strategic direction.
- Overseeing complex litigation matters, ensuring excellence in client service and legal outcomes.
- Developing and implementing departmental strategy, including business development initiatives and client relationship management.
- Managing key client relationships, attending to high-value and high-profile cases, and identifying opportunities for growth.
- Ensuring regulatory compliance, risk management, and quality assurance across the team.
- Collaborating with the wider leadership team to contribute to firm-wide strategy, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Representing the firm in client meetings, networking events, and professional forums to enhance the firm’s profile.
About You:
- A senior litigation solicitor (likely 8+ years PQE) with a proven track record in managing complex disputes.
- Demonstrable leadership experience, ideally with previous responsibility for supervising and developing a legal team.
- Strong technical expertise across a range of contentious matters, such as commercial litigation, property disputes, professional negligence, or contract claims.
- Excellent client relationship management skills and a commercial mindset.
- A proactive and strategic thinker with the ability to drive growth, manage resources effectively, and deliver results.
