Job Title: SEMH Teaching Assistant - Primary (1:1 Support)

NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a welcoming mainstream primary school in the LS26 area of Leeds. This role will be on a supply basis and will involve providing 1:1 support for a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a patient and resilient individual who is passionate about supporting children who may face barriers to learning and helping them engage positively in the classroom environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs throughout the school day
• Support the child in managing emotions, behaviour, and engagement in learning activities
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies
• Encourage positive behaviour, confidence, and social interaction
• Support the pupil both in the classroom and during structured interventions
• Help create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

• Experience working with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs within a school or care setting
• Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Worker, Youth Worker, or Support Worker is desirable
• A calm, patient, and consistent approach to behaviour support
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• The right to work in the UK
