The ward has 16 beds shared between Hepatology and the Regional Renal and Renal Transplant Service. PICU and all other Paediatric Specialties are on site. There are subspecialty clinics in metabolic liver disease, viral hepatitis, fatty liver disease and adolescent and transitional care. Outreach clinics are held throughout the North of England and Scotland. The team is led by five consultant hepatologists together with paediatric hepatobiliary and transplant surgeons. There are also two ST 6-8 doctors on the team, and in addition doctors at ST2 & ST3 level support the ward. The department also consist of a multidisciplinary team with specialist nurses, pharmacy and dietetic support. There will the opportunity for some on call shifts and this can discussed at time of interview. The Paediatric Hepatology Department in Leeds is a National Specialist Service for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of children who have a wide range of acute and chronic liver disease, portal hypertension, or intrahepatic lesions. The department is one of three national centres for Paediatric Liver Transplant and has a close relationship with other specialties at Leeds Children's including Gastroenterology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Haematology and Oncology and Rheumatology, for joint management of multisystem disorders What you will bring to the role The role is suitable for applicants at ST6+ or Post CCT candidates with experience in Paediatric Hepatology. The daytime role will be primarily based on the Paediatric Hepatology Ward (L50). The post holder will be involved in the day to day management of inpatients and take part in outpatient clinics. The out of hours commitments will include working covering the General Paediatrics Wards and working on the Acute Children's Assessment and Treatment Unit which receives referrals from GP/s, Paediatric Emergency Department, Community Nurses/Midwives. The registrar will be outlining the management plan and overlooking the patient flow. You will also be required to assist in preparing discharge letters, initiation/change of treatment and discussions with relatives.
