Communications Officer

Mark Sewards MP is looking for an outstanding creative individual to produce compelling and engaging content for residents in Leeds South West & Morley. The content you create will cover both local and national issues.

You will create and lead campaigns and you will design and produce content for a wider audience, through social media and the press. You will also support Mark by publicising his work to constituents.

You will be responsible for Mark’s social media and regularly produce content for all platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish a permanent online presence in the constituency, resulting in high engagement with constituents
• Create content, write scripts, and produce videos for multiple social media platforms
• Produce professional graphics, publicising surgeries, news alerts, campaigns etc
• Create content which demonstrates Mark’s national priorities and work in Parliament
• Create and manage a communications grid
• Monitor social media enquiries, ensuring all are dealt with in a timely manner
• Monitor and liaise with the media, prepare press releases
• Produce a monthly newsletter and write op-eds
• Research local, regional and national issues to support MP’s work
• Assist surgeries and other meetings and follow up as appropriate
• Maintain the MP's website

Person Specification

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Able to work unsupervised, prioritising a challenging workload
• Strong organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Good judgement and professionalism
• A proactive, can-do attitude, willing to support a range of office functions
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends

Skills and experience

• Outstanding skills in graphic design
• Ability to edit short-form video for social media
• An ability to quickly adopt Mark’s writing style in order to draft content
• Experience with Adobe creative suite, Canva or equivalent.
• Experience in production of flyers, reports, and surveys for use in constituent communications
• Strong political sensitivity and ability to use initiative
• Confident in website development and maintenance
• Full UK driving licence and access to vehicle

Additional information

• The role requires working some evenings and weekends
• Travel will be required, both around the constituency and to London
