NHS Jobs
Leeds

For questions about this job, contact: Name: Bryony Smith/Hannah Young Position: Preceptorship Lead/Preceptorship Midwife Email: [email protected] Job Summary Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking enthusiastic midwives who are newly registered or soon to qualify to join our team in providing highquality, holistic care to women and their families. We welcome applications from students nearing completion of their midwifery degree (with NMC registration expected in the coming months) as well as midwives who have qualified within the past 18 months. At this time, this recruitment is open to applicants who have completed an NMCapproved UK midwifery training programme. The post holder will work in partnership with the multi-disciplinary team in both the hospital and community settings, providing continuity of carer according to the local models of care. This includes partnership working with general practitioners, obstetricians, midwives, health visitors and all other agencies involved. To ensure that safe quality care is received by women and their families throughout the maternity pathway. This exciting opportunity requires the post holder to complete the agreed WY&H LMNS preceptorship package with support and as part of their professional development and transition to Band 6. During the preceptorship period the midwife will have the opportunity to provide care across the perinatal pathway in a variety of settings. It will help the post holder to identify their strengths and highlight the areas requiring further development for the benefit of the women you care for. This in turn will enable you to become a confident and competent midwife, practising in accordance with the NMC Code (2018) and give you the opportunity to prepare for your first NMC Revalidation in 3 years’ time. The Preceptorship Lead Midwife will provide the post holder with ongoing support with any additional training needs throughout the programme. Every trust across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate LMNS aligns to the National Preceptorship Framework for Midwifery. In terms of timeframes to progress to a Band 6 - this will be dependent on individual progress, contracted hours, and will be decided in collaboration with you, your preceptor and line manager. Why you should join our Team Joining Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust as a newly qualified midwife offers a unique opportunity to begin your career within one of the largest maternity services in the country. As a rotational midwife across our maternity services, you will gain experience across the full perinatal pathway, working flexibly in hospital and community settings to provide highquality, holistic care to women, babies and families. You will be supported to practise autonomously within a safe, evidencebased framework, while working closely with a skilled and committed multidisciplinary team. We are strongly committed to supporting your transition from student to registered midwife. As part of this role, you will complete the West Yorkshire & Harrogate Local Maternity & Neonatal System (WY&H LMNS) preceptorship programme, giving you structured support, development opportunities and exposure to a wide range of clinical settings. Our culture reflects our Trust values of being fair, accountable, collaborative, empowered and patientcentred, ensuring you feel respected, supported and valued as you develop confidence, competence and resilience in your professional practice. What you will bring to the role You will bring a genuine commitment to womancentred, compassionate midwifery care, underpinned by professionalism and a strong understanding of safe practice. You will demonstrate respect for diversity, recognise the importance of equity in maternity services, and approach your work with empathy, integrity and accountability. Your communication skills will allow you to build trust with women and families, support informed choice and work effectively with colleagues and partner services. You will also bring enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. As a newly qualified midwife, you will be open to feedback, reflective in your practice and motivated to develop your confidence and competence over time. By working positively within teams, managing competing priorities and responding flexibly to service needs, you will contribute to a supportive workplace and help uphold the high standards of care expected across our maternity services.
