Our client is a specialist engineering consultancy delivering design and advisory services across the UK infrastructure and utilities sectors. The business supports major programmes within water, wastewater and environmental infrastructure, providing multidisciplinary engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle.

Due to continued growth and increased investment across the water industry, the organisation is expanding its Electrical Engineering capability to support a growing portfolio of wastewater treatment, process and infrastructure projects.

About the Role

As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will take a leading role in the delivery of Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (EICA) design across water and wastewater infrastructure schemes.

You will provide technical leadership across projects, overseeing feasibility studies, outline design and detailed engineering delivery while supporting the development of engineering teams. The role also involves mentoring engineers, contributing to project strategy and ensuring high standards of engineering quality and compliance across the business.

The position offers hybrid working with time spent in the Warrington office alongside occasional site visits.

The key requirements for this Principal Electrical Engineer role are:

- Lead the delivery of EICA design across water and wastewater infrastructure projects
- Provide technical oversight of electrical engineering design deliverables including calculations, specifications and drawings
- Manage feasibility studies, outline design and detailed engineering stages of projects
- Conduct technical design reviews and ensure engineering compliance with relevant standards
- Manage CAD resources and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and support technical capability across the team
- Support bid preparation including fee estimates and programme planning
- Develop innovative engineering solutions to improve project delivery and efficiency
- Promote strong engineering, safety and quality standards across all projects

Experience required for this Principal Electrical Engineer role are:

- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- Extensive experience delivering EICA design within water or process engineering environments
- Experience producing electrical engineering design deliverables including load schedules, cable calculations and system architectures
- Strong experience across feasibility, outline and detailed engineering design
- Experience managing engineering teams or leading technical delivery
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience for this Principal Electrical Engineer role are:

- Experience undertaking SIL or LOPA assessments
- Experience conducting DSEAR assessments
- Experience using AMTECH or Trimble for electrical calculations and fault studies
- Experience with AutoCAD for engineering drawings
- Knowledge of UK water industry engineering standards and specifications
- Experience with HV electrical systems design and specification
