About the Role NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and nurturing Learning Pathways Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN school in Leeds on a temp-to-perm basis.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support children and young people with complex needs, including profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), autism, and associated communication and sensory needs. The school provides a highly supportive and structured environment, focusing on personalised learning pathways to help every pupil achieve their full potential.

You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and support teams to deliver tailored support that meets each pupil's individual learning and care needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with complex needs on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Assist in delivering personalised learning pathways and sensory-based activities
  • Support communication development using a range of strategies (e.g. PECS, Makaton, visual aids)
  • Provide personal care where required, including feeding and hygiene support
  • Promote engagement, independence, and emotional wellbeing
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other support staff
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly complex needs
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Comfortable supporting personal care needs
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
  • Relevant qualifications in education, health & social care, or similar (desirable)
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one)
  • The right to work in the UK
