Business Development Manager

A fantastic opportunity for a Business Development Manager to join a fast growing, commercially focused organisation operating within a regulated, infrastructure led environment. This role sits within a national sales division and focuses on winning new business and developing long term client relationships across a broad range of enterprise and multi site customers. The Business Development Manager will play a key role in identifying, shaping and closing complex opportunities, particularly where solutions involve ongoing service, maintenance and future expansion. This is a highly consultative role, well suited to someone who enjoys autonomy, relationship led sales and building long term commercial value rather than one off transactions.

Location: Ideally based in Leeds, Sheffield, or Manchester due to strong transport links. This is a remote role with regional client coverage; a full driving licence is required. You will be expected to visit the head office in Surrey once per month.

Salary: £40,000 to £50,000 basic + car allowance + commission (commission structure to be confirmed for 2026)

Requirements for Business Development Manager:

  • Strong commercial experience in a Business Development, Sales or New Business focused role
  • Proven ability to win new business through consultative selling and negotiation
  • Essential experience selling solutions that involve installation alongside an ongoing servicing, maintenance or support contract
  • Essential experience within infrastructure, utilities, facilities, construction, energy, sustainability or similar technical B2B environments
  • Demonstrable experience identifying follow-on sales, upgrades or expansion opportunities within existing accounts
  • Experience working with complex or multi-stakeholder customer environments
  • Experience selling EV charging solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and decision makers
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage pricing, margin and internal approvals
  • Confident using CRM systems and Microsoft Office tools
  • Highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage multiple opportunities concurrently
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with internal teams
  • Flexible and proactive approach to identifying and pursuing new opportunities
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure

Responsibilities for Business Development Manager:

  • Win new business and develop new commercial opportunities across target sectors
  • Act as a key representative for the business to increase brand awareness and regional market presence
  • Identify leads, secure meetings with prospective clients, and manage opportunities through the full sales lifecycle
  • Support site visits, surveys or discovery sessions to inform commercial proposals where required
  • Deliver high-quality client presentations, tenders and proposals with a strong focus on conversion rate
  • Take responsibility for managing pricing and ensuring appropriate internal sign-off prior to submission
  • Develop a sound understanding of cost drivers, service models, operational constraints and delivery considerations
  • Identify risks that could impact productivity, timelines or long-term commercial viability
  • Think creatively to identify additional revenue opportunities through service contracts, renewals or solution expansion
  • Work closely with delivery, operations and project management teams to ensure a professional handover post-sale
  • Maintain accurate, detailed and up-to-date records within the CRM system
  • Manage personal KPIs, pipeline performance and reporting requirements
  • Develop a strong understanding of the market landscape, competitor offerings and regional growth opportunities
  • Act as a positive ambassador for the organisation’s solutions and long-term strategy
  • Demonstrate commitment to personal development, feedback and continuous improvement
  • Lead by example through work ethic, attitude and alignment with company values
