The Opportunity

Wayman Education is seeking a meticulous and proactive Science Technician to join a thriving secondary school science department in West Yorkshire . This is a vital support role for a candidate who is passionate about practical science and dedicated to ensuring a safe, efficient learning environment for students and staff.

The Role

As a Science Technician, you will be the "engine room" of the department. You will work across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring that all practical equipment and chemical solutions are prepared to a high standard for Key Stage 3 through to A-Level.

Key Responsibilities:

• Practical Preparation: Prepare and set up apparatus, chemicals, and biological materials for classroom demonstrations and student practicals.

• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a safe working environment in line with CLEAPSS and Health & Safety regulations, including the correct storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals.

• Maintenance: Routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment, such as microscopes, balances, and data loggers.

• Stock Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels, placing orders for consumables and equipment as required to stay within budget.

• Classroom Support: Assist teaching staff during practical lessons, providing technical advice and ensuring students use equipment safely.

Requirements

• Educational Background: A degree or strong post-16 qualification in a Science-related discipline.

• Technical Experience: Previous experience working in a school laboratory or a commercial lab environment is highly desirable.

• Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) and school safety protocols.

• Organizational Skills: The ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced school setting.
