Teacher of History
We are seeking to appoint an outstanding and talented Teacher of History to join our successful and growing team from September 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a thriving subject area that inspires students to achieve their full potential at Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
The ideal candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, passionate about providing a high-quality education that raises achievement and fosters exceptional progress. You should have a genuine enthusiasm for helping students explore diverse places and understand the complex interactions between human and physical environments. Additionally, you must possess the ability to effectively engage and inspire students across a wide range of needs and abilities. The role will involve teaching across all age and ability ranges.
As a department delivering to all key stages, we place equal importance on subject knowledge and pedagogy. You will join a team that is committed to your professional development, ensuring your growth translates into outstanding outcomes for our students.
History at Brigshaw
The History department at Brigshaw is a popular subject studied by all students at years 7, 8 and 9 as well as more than half of Year 10 and 11s and one of the largest A-Level subjects. Results at both GCSE and A-level are consistently above national average and the team has thriving extra-curricular opportunities.
Staffing
The History team is 5 teachers strong and comprises a range of experience in both curriculum and pastoral teams. The focus of the department is on delivering a powerful curriculum that both broadens students' experience of the world and helps them to better place their own community within it. We work hard to curate a varied, unique and challenging curriculum that aims to energise our students' love for History through its content and not gimmicks.
We are a team who collaborate closely together on shared resources throughout all year groups so that all students receive carefully planned, high quality lessons made by subject experts while balancing staff workload. Every year our schemes are reviewed as a team and topics are adjusted to incorporate developments in our subject or expertise within the department. This approach has allowed us to write a KS3 that sets a foundation for GCSE and A-Level without repeating the same content year after year so our students can experience a varied diet of History teaching.
Brigshaw High School is dedicated to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
