Salary: £19,000.00- £20,500.00 (depending on experience)
We are currently recruiting for a Behaviour Support Mentor to join a vibrant and successful primary school in Leeds. This is a full-time, term-time role, supporting pupils with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, particularly Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This is a permanent opportunity, starting as soon as possible.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience working with children in an educational or support setting, particularly those with SEN. The role is well suited to a compassionate and motivated individual who can build positive relationships, demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and support pupils' emotional development and behaviour in a sensitive and professional manner. Key Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted behaviour support to pupils, particularly those with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Work closely with class teachers and SENCO to implement behaviour strategies and support plans
- Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils to support their emotional wellbeing and engagement in learning
- Support pupils on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, helping them to regulate behaviour and develop social skills
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all pupils
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and interventions, reporting back to staff as required
- Use de-escalation techniques and positive behaviour management strategies effectively
- Support pupils during unstructured times such as break and lunchtime where needed
- Communicate effectively with staff, parents, and carers, maintaining professionalism and confidentiality at all times
- Contribute to safeguarding and child protection procedures in line with school policies
- Engage in training and professional development to further enhance skills and knowledg
What we're looking for:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
- Understanding of child development and experience within a primary school setting
- A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting pupils with behavioural needs
- Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers
- Confidence in using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- A professional approach, with the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially
- A proactive, flexible, and resilient attitude
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
